Strong finish to 2019 for BidX1 UK following successful December sale

BidX1 UK has raised £4,980,800 from its December sale. This brings the total 2019 sales figure to £52,864,100, a sum significantly higher than the £28.3 million raised through digital sales in 2018.

The December catalogue attracted visitors from 52 countries including Finland, Australia, Canada, Hungary, Denmark and Switzerland, resulting in 889 bids being placed on 27 lots throughout the sales period. Of the bids placed, 23% were made through BidX1’s auto-bidding feature.

One of the most popular lots from the December sale was Lot 9, a freehold three-storey house on Friern Road in East Dulwich, London. Listed at £600,000, the property received 92 bids and sold for £973,000, achieving 62% over its guide price.

BidX1 also sold all nine lots offered on behalf of the world’s leading outdoor advertising company, JC Decaux. The sites, located across Yorkshire and Scotland, received 413 bids in total, achieving a combined sales figure 47% above their guide prices.

The success of this sale reflects the traction received throughout 2019. BidX1’s UK arm saw an increase of 111% in database subscribers, a 78% increase in registered bidders and a 335% increase in bids placed on the platform when compared to 2018. Over the course of the year, the UK catalogues received a total of 1,145,075 views from 119 countries.

Oliver Childs, Head of Commercial Auctions at BidX1, said: “BidX1 has had a strong finish to the year with good results from digital sales throughout the UK in 2019. Comparing year-on-year results, it is clear that engagement with our digital platform has significantly increased. This reflects the continued demand for the transparency, analytics and global reach that our platform provides.

“This year has also seen further international growth for BidX1, as we launched our digital platform in Cyprus and Spain. The geographical expansion has built on our success in Ireland, South Africa and the UK and in October we held sale events across all five markets. This attracted three million visits from over 180 countries with over 5,000 bids being placed, resulting in almost £34 million being raised in three weeks.

“We are looking forward to 2020; the combination of data and expertise at BidX1 will continue to take our offering from strength to strength, building on our success to date.”

Throughout 2019, BidX1 sold a number of standout properties in the UK which achieved excellent results. In February, the platform facilitated the sale of a freehold residential building with planning permission for 8 units in South Croydon's Addington Road. Listed with a guide price of £1.2 million, the popular property received 40 bids and sold for £1.4 million.

BidX1’s October sale saw the digital hammer come down on two significant lots. The first was a historic Grade-II listed manor house, Armley Grange, set in 1.26 acres of grounds in Leeds. Having received 207 bids, the property sold for £595,000 – a figure £245,000 above its guide price.

The second lot of significance was Cannock Cricket and Hockey Club. The freehold multi sports ground was listed with a guide price of £600,000 and received 243 bids, selling for £1,101,000.

BidX1 worked with numerous receivers, administrators and insolvency practitioners at many of the largest UK and global real estate and accountancy firms in 2019.
